            The College was inaugurated in 1964 by the late Sri. R. Sankar, the founder -Secretary of S.N. Trusts and the then Chief Minister of Kerala. What began as a Junior college grew over the years into a major institution, offering instruction in , ten Degree courses and two PG courses.
The college at present has on its rolls more than 2,500 students and faculty of more than 90 members. Apart from the academic activities, due emphasis is given to co-curricular activities also. There are 4 very active NSS units in the college. A Population Education Club and a Women's Cell are also functioning well in the college. The NCC wing could have its cadets participate in Republic Day Parade many times. In sports and games the college teams could win laurels on different occasions, especially in Kabaddi and Kho-Kho.


                The S.N.D.P Union Cherthala extended its unreserved co-operation to the S N trust to start a college in the name of Guru .Realizing the dreams of the the Guru and materalizing exhortations like "Educate that you may be free" and "Enlightment through Eduacation", the college was inagurated on 14 th July 1964 by the late Sri R. Shanker the founder Secreatray of S.N Trusts and the then Chief Minister of Kerala.The Guru's preaching ,"One Caste ,One Religion and One God for man " is upheld in all realms of the function of the institution.
From its humble beginning as a junior college it has now attained a status of a senior college offering instruction in eleven Degree courses and four Post Graduate courses The college is affiliated to the UNIVERSITY of Kerala and is recognized by the U.G.C. This co-educational institution has 1336 on its comprising 744 girls and 592 boys (as on Nov 2005) 69 faculty and 54 member s on the non-teaching staff.The National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC), an autonomous institution of the UGC which is aimed at assessing and accrediting institution of higher learning with and objective of improving quality of education ,assessed the college in March (29,30)2004 and graded it B++.


Infrastructure


College has a main block which houses the major share UG and all PG classes. The remaining UG classes are conducting in the building which is behind to the main block. In addition college is setting up a new three storied block of which the ground floor is exclusively dedicated for the college library.The following facilities features among the infrastructure of the college
1. Auditorium
The college has a spacious auditorium where college assemblies, meetings, seminars and variety entertainments are conducted. It is also put into use as an indoor shuttle badminton court.
2. Digital Conference Hall
LCD multimedia projector and arrangements for power point presentation are available in the air conditioned Digital Conference Hall which is made use of various departments.
3. Internet club and Common Computer Lab.
A computer lab with 30 computer systems and another computer lab with internet facility having 10 computer systems are utilized in the college for various classes, programmes and the activities in the Internet club.
4. Meditation Hall
A Meditation hall is open to students and staff throughout the day on all working days.
5. Counseling Center
Personal counseling is given to the students outsiders with psychological problems. A separated cabin for this is provided in the Department of Philosophy.
6. Public Telephone
The public telephone in the college helps the students and the public.
7. Dhanalekshmi Bank Extension counters
This extension counter is meant for staff and students in banking operations. It also aims at promoting thrift and savings among the staff. It remains open between 11 am to 12 noon.
8. Staff Co-operative Bank Ltd No A-756
The college has staff co-operative bank .It aims at promoting the financial condition of the members of the staff (Teaching and Non-teaching).The bank is managed by Board of Directors elected by members of the staff from among themselves.
9.Sree Narayana College Co-operative Society Ltd. No.A-394
A Co-operative Society is functioning in the college to supply the need of the students and the staff regarding text books ,stationary articles, laboratory records, exercise books etc.Members of the staff are share holders of the society and students are associate members >on admission to the college every student shall pay Rs.5/- as fee for associate membership. The amount shall not be returned
10. Research Facility
Department of Zoology offers research facility under the guidance of Dr B.Indira and Dr.Shiny Sreedhar

Canteen
Lunch and refreshment are provided at subsidized rates for the students in the college canteen
